Movies about mean girls aren’t completely fiction.  Some people seem to have nothing more to do than be cruel, but you can do a couple things to keep gossip from hurting you and your reputation.

DON’T FEED THE TROLLS

This is something I am trying to teach my girls.  If you don’t react to cruel people and if you don’t even act like their opinion matters; you don’t give them a voice.  We especially don’t need give them a voice our your heads.  When you hear someone is gossiping about you or even if they are saying things TO you; stop and say in your mind, “Don’t feed the trolls.”

Trolls don’t count.  They count as people, but their opinions do. not. matter.

If you respond at all, it just gives them something to devour like ravening wolves.  Just walk away and pray that God will help them to feel bad for their gossip and to make them something better than a troll.

LIVE IN A WAY THAT WHEN SOMEONE GOSSIPS NO ONE WILL BELIEVE YOU

I know we don’t live for other people, but God does say something about having a good reputation. (Prov. 22:1) If you are trying to love God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself … chances are no one will believe the gossip.  Your reputation is generally secure when you are doing right.  The wise will understand.

The wise matter; trolls don’t.  Real friends know the real you.
