“He that winneth souls is wise” is a verse that has prodded my heart since I started faithfully reading a Proverbs a Day in my early 20s.  It reminds me of the three things I want to be: 1) Pleasing to God, 2) A Soul Winner and 3) A Prayer Warrior.

At this season in my life I am more of a seed planter and that is why I love our church’s ministry.  We call it the Jericho Ministry.  You get a packet of 30 letters with names and addresses. Then someone signs the letter, adds some personal touches to it, and puts in a question card and a tract.

Our family tries to take one Friday evening a month and each person has a job.

  • We have some who handwrite the info on the front of the envelope.
  • Someone personalizes the letter.
  • The littler ones place the stamps or stuff the envelopes with tracts.
  • Then we pray for each name as a family.

But if you are in a season where you have more time and can do some one-on-one work, they also utilize the Journey Discipleship program.  The emphasis is to take a young believer and walk them through the fundamentals of the Bible and teach them how to make disciples for God.  It is done through a church (for accountability I am sure) and is done one year at a time.  I hope to some day be able to do this and am asking the Lord to lead me to “one soul” that I could help.

Whatever you are doing to lead souls to Christ, remember that some plant, others water, but it is God that gives the increase.  No effort is worthless.  Even if you “mess up,” a seed is still a seed.

I hope that the words “Soul Winning” stick with you and inspire you to share the gospel with more people this year than you did last year.  That is my goal!
